About Gallery 139
Gallery 139 is an independent art gallery. Opening in February of 2015 at 139A Beaumont St, Hamilton, an inner-city suburb of Newcastle, Australia. Featuring regularly changing gallery-curated, group and solo exhibitions by emerging and established Newcastle artists. In 2019, the gallery moved out of it’s Beaumont St location to present pop-up exhibition in Newcastle and Sydney. In 2020, due to COVID-19 it moved to online gallery only.
Gallery 139 is now an online gallery only, with obligation-free viewing available in our Hamilton studio please email ahn.wells@gmail.com or text 0434 886 450. Framing can be arranged at special gallery prices.
The gallery is owned and directed by Newcastle-based artist Ahn Wells with the intention to support, promote and engage the public with art. She established the gallery to create a space that not only supports artists by providing a professional gallery in which to exhibit and sell their artwork, but also to produce exhibitions for audiences that challenge, explore and investigate contemporary ideas and concepts.
“Art is to be looked art, enjoyed. I’m first about the looking. I don’t want people to feel pressured to buy when they come to an exhibition presented at Gallery 139, I want them first to see. If then they want to buy and start collecting art, then I’m excited to help them find what lights them up and makes them feel good to own.” Ahn says

Gallery 139 is the Founder of Independent Galleries Newcastle*
* Independent Galleries Newcastle started in 2016. It was Founded by Gallery 139 Director, Ahn Wells in February 2016 to advocate, support, promote and independent and artist-run galleries in the Newcastle City Council area. Funded by a yearly membership paid by the participating galleries and through financial contributions by a number of Supporters. It presented two Art Fairs (IGN Art Fair) in 2018 and 2019 at Newcastle Art Gallery. In 2020, due to the world-wide COVID-19 pandemic, it presented LIVE broadcast using Instagram hosted by Newcastle Art Gallery. The IGN Art Fair 2020 visited 14 galleries and artist collectives over 3 days (14-16 August 2020).
